Wine appreciation at Sevenoaks Adult Education
Wines of the Mediterranean- 5 week course – Mondays 6pm – 8.30pm
It’s coming towards the end of the summer so let these Mediterranean wines bring some sunny vibes to you whatever the weather here. Climate and water play a big role in influencing the style of wine and the Mediterranean with its warm summers and mild winters provides ideal conditions to produce some unique red, white and rose wines you won’t find elsewhere.
Each evening we’ll focus on a different region in the Mediterranean where you’ll learn about its long, rich history and we will taste between 6 - 8 wines from the South of France (including Provence), Southern Italy, Sardinia, Sicily, the Levant and Valencia, Greece and Lebanon. (Exact wines will depend on current availability)
Week one: South of France and Provence
Week two: Southern Italy including Calabria, Basilicata, Puglia
Week three: Catalunya and The Levant – including Penedes, Priorat and the vineyards around Valencia
Week four: The islands - Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and Majorca
Week five: Greece and Lebanon
We will explore the main characteristics of each wine including its colour, aroma and taste and develop a greater understanding of how and why it has come to be the style it is today. At the end of the course, you will gain a greater understanding of these styles of wine and have greater confidence when ordering wine in a restaurant or choosing a bottle to take home from your local supermarket. These classes are suitable for those new to wine appreciation as well as the more experienced and full tasting notes, maps and tasting sheets are included.
Rowena is very knowledgeable regarding wine. Choosing wine can feel awkward when you feel you don’t know enough. This event is both fun and has an educational purpose too. Lots of interaction and interest from everyone around the table.
